As the 2024 Hurricane Season approaches, Saint Lucia has initiated proactive steps to protect vulnerable communities from the devastating impact of natural disasters. A series of Anticipatory Action workshops has begun, led by the World Food Programme (WFP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Equity, Social Justice and Empowerment. In 2023, Saint Lucia, and other Caribbean governments participated in an initiative led by the WFP, focusing on the importance of anticipatory action in disaster preparedness. Since then, the WFP and the Ministry of Equity, have been diligently working on a plan tailored to Saint Lucia's needs.

The long process of updating Saint Lucia's Education Act is reaching the home stretch. The public will be presented with the most recent changes on Tuesday, May 21 at 5 p.m.

The redevelopment of Port Castries is officially underway! On April 30, 2024, the Saint Lucia Air and Seaports Authority (SLASPA) transferred the management of its cruise port operations to Global Ports Holding Plc (GPH). The agreement will see GPH inject $135 million directly into the local economy. Port Castries and the Soufriere waterfront will undergo transformational physical upgrades. GPH will make substantial investments to enhance the cruise passenger experience at Port Castries. The Vendor's Arcade will undergo a major facelift, while a new Fisherman’s Village will be constructed at Bananne, Castries. These developments will create several job opportunities in the construction sector and boost employment in Castries and Soufriere.
